Alnilam

Since I could walk, I’ve been looking up, to the moon, the stars. While other little boys in my class learned the names of famous football players, I drew my first hesitating constellation maps. I sold my Lima train set when I was eight, to pay me a small telescope. Now, I’m the proud owner of a GPS controlled Meade 200 series. But upgrading hardware has not taken away any of the awe I experience when looking up.

My favorite constellation is Orion. Called The Hunter  by the Old Ones, it is one of the largest constellations, usually visible near the equator. Orion has three magnificently lined up stars in its belt, that listen to incredible names: Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka. Alnilam is my silent favorite… it shows me the way to the Trapezium, the Orion Nebula, and the Horsehead Nebula. Simply beautiful…
