Michelle Obama made it clear: her kids are not on Facebook yet (and all kinds of secret services will keep it that way), and she is all happy about it. Now, for the first Lady of the United States of America, getting her kids to a decent school later cannot be too much of a struggle.
For a growing amount of parents, getting their kids in a decent and appropriate school becomes more and more challenging. Education in the better schools does not come cheap, but to protect their image, lots of schools are becoming more and more picky on who they allow into their classes.
Teenagers and parent go frantically from tier 1 to tier 2 schools, armed with professional resumes and grades, to (hopefully) land a seat for the young one that will guarantee the best education money can buy.
More and more online gurus use (and encourage other parents to use) Facebook. While Michelle Obama and other parents scramble to keep their offspring from the Social Network, these online professionals use Facebook in a very calculated way. By filling in carefully the profile, using a content calendar for the updates… and carefully selecting the uploaded pictures, they start laying the foundations for the perfect high school or university candidate.
Farfetched? Admit: what school does not like to see that the lovely Judy is captain of her local chess club, loves going to a theatre and reads Tolstoy for breakfast? Or that the cute little Paul loves to help his grandmother to church, is fluent in four languages, and posts videos of self-made mentos-powered rocket launches in the garden? Or that the wonderful little Hanah had a governor, two top lawyers, a social media Tycoon and 50cents on her garden party?
Trust me: Facebook is not all about play… not even when kids are involved…
